I usually wear my helmet when I take my bike. But Wednesday, the weather was so good I dint want the helmet to ruin the chilly wind hitting on my face, so I left the helmet and I was roaming around with no problem. At the end of the day, around 500 mts from my place, I was stopped by the police.
Police1: License, papers.
Me: Here.
The constable checked it.
Police1: No helmet, I’ve to file a case, pay 100 bucks.
Even before I start bargaining, the constable interupts,
Police1: Or pay 50 bucks to me, we are your friends, we are here to help you.
Me: I’ll give you 30 bucks.
He got offended and took me to another guy and asked him to file a case.
Police2: What do you do ?
Me: I am a sub-editor in a newspaper.
Police2: Okay sir, give me how much you can.
Me: I have 50 bucks so I can give only 30.
Police2: Ok sir.
Both the police constables never asked me to wear a helmet in future. And this happened right at the entrance of the Mylapore Police Station. And by reducing the fine amount, they claim to be doing a favour. Cha, I’ve seen some really honest police officers, who’ll do anything for the people. The guys who fines me are real black marks.
Not all police are like Alex Pandian or Raghavan or Anbu Selvan. Only Vadivelu has aptly portrayed the police of today in his movie Marudhamalai.

Not a good deed by u either đŸ˜¦
@ clod
i know … but better than asking him to write a receipt and paying a hundred rs, thirty rs is easier … i am just making hay when the sun shines …
… and so doing u’r police friends … all even.
@ clod wadel
not really though … i should have bargained more, these guys are like street hawkers, very much bargainable, the amount of bribe is directly proportional to the level of fault and your urgency to leave … if you have a lot of time, you can peacefully bargain with them …
i was caught near satyam cinemas once.. the traffic police asked my 1000 ..actually me mym friend missed the red light…
after 15 minutes of total non sense talk he agreed to take 100 rupees and left us..
well ,mistake is ours too..
we should have payed that too ..
ISn’t it ??
@ arvind
they’ve become like hawkers man … you can bargain anything with them …
How does it feel after the encountr :O)
We were once stopped when riding triples ( we had an exam that day .. i’m not justifying anething ). At first this cop started talking as if he was the vijaykanth-type, never asked for a bribe and went on abusing us for breaking the rules ( he spoke a lot of trash), he was even threatening to confiscate my bike and take me over to the station. After 20 mins or so, he asked me to give him the 20 bucks i had and let us off.
En intha vetti bandha ? He could’ve taken the money and spared us from all his shit.
